Road work announced for the Straits and White Bay North

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Trevor Taylor, MHA for the district of the Straits and White Bay North, today announced road work for the district, under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program for 2004.

"The recent increase in funding for the capital roads program demonstrates this government’s commitment to providing a safe and reliable transportation network within our province," said Minister Rideout. "This year’s program will provide road work for the District of the Straits and White Bay North valued at $1.7 million."

Planned projects for the district include:

  • replacing Upper Brook Bridge on Route 436;
  • paving a section of Route 430 between Eddie’s Cove and Green Island Brook;
  • paving a section of Route 430 near St. Anthony;
  • upgrading of a section of the road to Conche.

MHA Taylor said, "This is a solid commitment to improving the infrastructure on the Northern Peninsula. Road work is much needed in areas on the Viking Trail, Conche, and on the Upper Brook Bridge, on the road to L’Anse aux Meadows."
