Bifurcation Road / Kenmount Road Interchange to begin construction in 2004

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Bob Ridgley, MHA St. Johns North, today announced road work for the district of St. Johns North, under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program for 2004, valued at $1.5 million.

"One of the highlights of this program is the commitment by government to begin construction of the Bifurcation Road / Kenmount Road Interchange in 2004. The completion of this road will address some of the provinces most pressing residential and industrial infrastructure demands," said Minister Rideout.

St. Johns North MHA Bob Ridgley is extremely pleased that the provincial government will be partnering with the City of St. Johns to complete the road. "The minister and the city have shown a commitment to work together on matters of importance. Cooperation between the two levels of government to complete this road exemplifies a strong working relationship. A commitment for approximately $3 million of work has been made."

St. Johns Deputy Mayor Gerry Colbert said, "I am delighted that the provincial government has decided to proceed with the project. In terms of economic impact, we anticipate serious development to occur in the Kenmount Road area in the near future and the completion of this road is essential in maximizing economic development. I am also pleased because the completion of this road means a more effective flow of traffic across the City of St. Johns."
