Minister reiterates commitment to Labrador North Coast communities

Transportation and Works Minister Tom Rideout today reiterated his commitment to provide the appropriate ferry service to Labrador North Coast communities.

"Recently I have had representations from local stakeholders, transportation committees and the MHA for Torngat Mountains, regarding the freighter service out of Lewisporte," said Minister Rideout. "I would like to reiterate that I have heard their concerns, I have discussed the issue with the MHA, and I am cognizant of the issue. Rest assured, I will take all feedback and comments from stakeholder groups under advisement and will give them utmost consideration in making any decision on ferry routes in the area."

The minister went on to say that: "As a government, we are committed to providing this service for the people who depend on it the most; the people of the North Coast. Today, I want to assure them that government has heard their concerns, stands by its commitment, and will work with the people on the North Coast toward delivering the best service possible, with the financial resources that are available."
