2004 provincial badminton team roster announced for Atlantic Junior Championships

Badminton Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to announce the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Team Roster for the 2004 Atlantic Junior/Juvenile/Under 14 Championships, in Bathurst, New Brunswick, from March 12-14, 2004.

Provincial coach Keith Pevie (Trout River), together with assistant coaches Mike Alexander (Kippens), Jim Butler (Conception Bay South), Craig Ralph (Glovertown) and Charles Sharpe (Northshore, Bay of Islands) have high hopes for the team's performance. The coaching staff will be assisted by chaperones Jim Webb (CBS) and Elizabeth Crocker (Trout River) and team manager Janice Reid Boland (Torbay).

Team Newfoundland and Labrador is the defending Atlantic Junior Badminton Champion, and hopes to make 2004 the fourth consecutive year it brings home the Atlantic team trophy. The 43- member provincial badminton team will compete in 15 events - boys' singles, girls' singles, boys' doubles, girls' doubles and mixed doubles, in three age categories. Team Newfoundland and Labrador has 16 junior athletes, 10 juvenile athletes, and 17 under 14 athletes. Twenty-two team members are from Conception Bay South (CSB), seven are from Trout River, six from the Glovertown region, five from the Stephenville area, and three from the Northshore, Bay of Islands.

The team will travel to Bathurst by bus, on a road trip that begins on March 11, and ends March 15. Samantha Ralph, of Sandy Cove, will travel to Bathurst from Montreal, where she is currently training at the Atwater Badminton Club in preparation for her bid to be named to the National Junior Badminton Team that will compete at the World Juniors in Vancouver this fall.
