The following is being distributed at the request of the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board:

Board investigates spill from Terra Nova FPSO

The Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NOPB) is investigating a spill of some 200 barrels of crude oil that occurred just before 1 a.m. November 21, 2004 during operations on the Terra Nova FPSO. The FPSO is located 350 kilometres east southeast of St. John�s in the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore area.

Upon notification of the incident, the C-NOPB�s Chief Conservation Officer (CCO) ordered the suspension of production operations on the FPSO.

The board has commenced a formal investigation of the events relating to the spill in accordance with the Conservation and Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Policy under the Accord Implementation Acts.
