NLIS 2 July 16, 2004 (Municipal and Provincial Affairs) Districts of Humber East and Humber West benefit from capital works program Premier Danny Williams, MHA for Humber West, Jack Byrne, Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister, and Tom Marshall, MHA for the District of Humber East, announced today the City of Corner Brook will receive a total of $1,900,000 in funding from the Municipal Capital Works Program. "In Budget 2004, government stated that it would target investment in areas that will stimulate economic growth. Infrastructure investments are a strategic and positive way to stimulate growth and promote job creation," said Premier Williams. "We�ve identified $1,000,000 for various capital works projects for the City of Corner Brook. The City of Corner Brook will determine which priority projects will be funded." "I am delighted that the City of Corner Brook will benefit from this capital works funding," said Minister Byrne. "Providing reliable infrastructure is a priority for this provincial government." The Premier added that though the province is facing a serious fiscal situation, it is vital to continue investing into infrastructure as it represents an investment into our future. "If we are to be successful at attracting business and investment to the province, we must be able to provide stable and adequate public infrastructure. It is also extremely important to the tourism industry, which is vital to this region of the province," added the Premier. "I am pleased to announce that the provincial government has allotted $900,000 for a west side trunk sewer outfall for the City of Corner Brook," said Minister Marshall.
