Capital works announced for the Cape St. Francis district

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs and MHA for the District of Cape St. Francis, announced today capital works for the District of Cape St. Francis.

"We must ensure that our residents have safe and reliable roads within their municipalities," said Minister Byrne. "This years program will include funding to complete Powers Lane in Flatrock and to upgrade and pave Gully Road in Pouch Cove at a total cost of approximately $386,000. In Bauline, $68,000 has also been allocated to complete cleaning of waterlines."

Providing solid infrastructure throughout the province is an important aspect of this governments economic growth agenda. The total value of all work to be completed in 2004 is approximately $100 million. These projects will have an immediate positive economic impact generating job creation and rural development.

"The provincial government will cost-share these projects with the municipalities under the Municipal Capital Works Program. This program is a commitment of this governments investment in providing reliable capital works."

The minister also noted that this would be the third year of a Multi-Year Capital Works Agreement with the Town of Torbay valued at $3,620,000.
