Capital works projects for Bonavista South district

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, and Roger Fitzgerald, MHA for the District of Bonavista South, announced today projects approved for the district under capital works programs.

"The projects announced for this district will significantly improve water and sewer for area residents," said Minister Byrne. "We are pleased to provide funding under the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program and the Municipal Capital Works Program."

Projects include:

• Extend sewer and loop water main to River Stick Road in Bonavista. Funding is valued at $71,000 and is proposed under the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program;
• Upgrade of industrial water system in Port Union which is approved under the Municipal Capital Works Program. Value of funding is at $300,000;
• Paving of various roads in Bonavista at a cost of $250,000.

The second prong of the two-pronged approach refers to government�s commitment to economic development. This agenda for economic growth includes making strategic investments for the benefit of the economy. Government recognizes that solid infrastructure in rural Newfoundland and Labrador is an important part of economic development. Through these projects, government is re-affirming its commitment to community infrastructure.

"This announcement is good news for my district," said MHA Roger Fitzgerald. "These improvements will also help stimulate the economy through job creation. That is very important especially in rural Newfoundland and Labrador."
