Capital works projects announced for the District of Cartwright-LAnse an Clair

Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister Jack Byrne announced today the details of municipal infrastructure projects for the District of Cartwright-LAnse an Clair.

"These projects fall under the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program and will total $1,054,270," said Minister Byrne. "Funding has been proposed for water treatment and water and sewer servicing."

A number of projects for Cartwright have been proposed including a satellite chlorination system valued at $42,000, swabbing of water lines for $140,000 and water system improvements for $133,000. For Port Hope Simpson, $739,270 has been proposed for water and sewer servicing from Bowater Avenue to the clinic.

The second prong of the two pronged approach refers to governments commitment to economic development. This agenda for economic growth includes making strategic investments for the benefit of the economy. Government recognizes that solid infrastructure in rural Newfoundland and Labrador is an important part of economic development. Through these projects, government is re-affirming its commitment to community infrastructure.

"These projects are very important for ensuring that residents of Newfoundland and Labrador have the best possible water and sewer services," said Minister Byrne. "I am very pleased to be able to identify these projects as priorities for 2004."
