Capital works announcement for the District of Port au Port

Jack Byrne, Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister, and Jim Hodder, MHA for the District of Port au Port, announced today projects for the district which are proposed for funding under the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program.

"The Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs is pleased to contribute funding to these ongoing projects," said Minister Byrne. "We propose $88,402 to upgrade Lourdes� water system and another $28,615 for water supply improvements. This funding is cost-shared between the federal, provincial and municipal governments."

Government is committed to economic development which includes making strategic investments for the benefit of the economy. Providing solid infrastructure in rural Newfoundland and Labrador is a necessary part of economic growth. Through these projects, government is re-affirming its commitment to community infrastructure.

"I am pleased that government has committed these funds to ensure that the residents of Lourdes have clean, safe water," said MHA Jim Hodder. "These additional funds will help improve the quality of life within my district."
