The Straits and White Bay North receives funding for capital works

Jack Byrne, Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister, and Trevor Taylor, MHA for the District of The Straits and White Bay North, announced today that this district will receive funding for a number of municipal capital works projects.

"We are proposing to spend $2 million under the federal, provincial and municipal cost-shared Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program for water and sewer and projects for this district" said Minister Byrne. "An additional $100,000 will be provided for water improvements under the Municipal Capital Works Program."

The Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program projects include:

  • The development of waste management systems for NorPen Waste Management Incorporated for $500,000;
  • Phase one of two for manhole repairs in St. Anthony valued at $500,000;
  • Recap East Street relating to water and sewer in St. Anthony for $500,000;
  • Also in St. Anthony, upgrading the sewer system for the Bottom Brook sewer worth $500,000.

The Municipal Capital Works Program project:

  • Water improvements for St. Lunaire-Griquet valued at $100,000.

"I am very pleased to announce these projects for The Straits and White Bay North," said Minister Trevor Taylor. "All of these will improve services to residents. Particularly of note is the funding for NorPen Waste Management Incorporated which will go towards greatly improving waste disposal for the Northern Peninsula."
