Capital works project announced for Harbour Main-Whitbourne district
Jack Byrne, Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister, and Tom Hedderson, MHA for the District of Harbour Main-Whitbourne, announced today that the Town of South River has been proposed for funding from the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program.
"South River will receive funding for a water transmission main to an existing dry water line from the Brigus water supply," said Minister Byrne. "The province will contribute $265,000 and will request federal government financial support under the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure agreement."
Government reaffirmed its commitment to economic development in this year’s budget. The total value of all work to be completed in 2004 is approximately $100 million. Government recognizes that solid infrastructure in rural Newfoundland and Labrador is an important part of economic development. This agenda for growth includes making strategic investments for the benefit of the economy.
"I am delighted that the Town of South River will benefit from this capital works funding," said MHA Tom Hedderson. "Providing sound infrastructure is a priority for this provincial government which sees this as a responsible investment for the future of this district."
