Minister attends aboriginal orientation festivities at Memorial University of Newfoundland

Tom Rideout, minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs, yesterday attended the aboriginal orientation barbeque and social at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

"It was a delightful event that I thoroughly enjoyed," said the minister. "I had the opportunity to meet with several students; some were returning for yet another year of studies while, for others, this is their first year at the university."

Governments vision of the future is a bright one for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Minister Rideout said, "We have an opportunity to grow this province for our children and grandchildren, including the young people I had the opportunity to spend time with yesterday."

The minister went on to say, "We are addressing the issues that are important to the people of this province and education is one of the key issues. I am delighted to see so many aboriginal students preparing for that bright future through the post-secondary education system.

"University years are both challenging and interesting. I wish these and all students the best of luck with their studies and future endeavors," said Minister Rideout.
