Official voters list released for
ratification of Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement

The official voters list has been released by the ratification committee for the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement. Only those individuals registered on the list may cast a ballot on voting day. Ratification of the agreement requires the approval of 50 per cent + 1 of all eligible voters.

A copy of the list may be viewed at town/community council offices and other locations in 11 designated voting centres. It is also available at the ratification committee�s office in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and on the internet at www.labradorinuit-ratification.com

Publication of the official voters list sets the stage for the declaration of a date for voting on the Land Claims Agreement. An announcement on voting day is forthcoming.

The Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement was initialled on August 29, 2003 by representatives of the Labrador Inuit Association, Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and Government of Canada. On September 26, 2003, the ratification committee was established to conduct the voting process on the agreement. The committee is an independent body with eight members: four chosen by the Labrador Inuit Association, two by the provincial government and two by the federal government. A chairperson was appointed by consensus of the three parties initialling the Land Claims Agreement.
