Courts Administration Advisory Board holds historic first meeting

The newly established Courts Administration Advisory Board held its first meeting today, marking an historic day in the province, taking a significant step towards enhanced communication between the courts and government.

"Todays meeting was a positive step in working together to find new and innovative ways to improve the provinces court system. I am pleased at the collaborative approach, and feel strongly that many positive developments will be introduced to improve services provided in the court system," stated Minister Tom Marshall. "The advisory board provides a forum to discuss issues of priority, and the cooperation between members will help us prioritize the needs of the courts, make decisions to improve the administration of the court system and help plan for the future."

In September, the Department of Justice announced the establishment of an advisory board to introduce a more collaborative process of strategic planning for the courts. Members of the advisory board include the Minister of Justice and Attorney General Tom Marshall Q.C.; Chief Justice Clyde Wells; Chief Justice Derek Green;Chief Judge M.R. Reid; Deputy Minister John Cummings Q.C.; and Assistant Deputy Minister Chris Curran.

"Cooperation between the judiciary and government will play a significant role in advancing our present court system, and bring improvements and innovative solutions to the courts," added Minister Marshall.
