Innovation, Trade and Rural Development Minister Kathy Dunderdale, in conjunction with St. Georges-Stephenville East MHA Joan Burke and Port au Port MHA Jim Hodder, announced today government has hired the consulting company RP Erickson and Associates to carry out a feasibility study of Stephenville Airport.

"I am pleased we have selected a consultant and can get the study underway," said Minister Dunderdale. "RP Erickson has considerable expertise in the aviation industry and in strategic planning. Im looking forward to receiving a comprehensive report from them on the future viability of the airport."

Throughout the course of the study, the company will examine the airports historic business and marketing approach; review all options with respect to potential future business operations and market niche for Stephenville Airport; and outline a potential strategy, including an implementation plan, time lines, costs and likelihood of success.

The consultant is expected to start immediately and a final report is required within eight weeks of the commencement of work. The cost of conducting the feasibility study is $34,500.

"The selection of RP Erickson as a consultant is a positive first step and the company will consult with key stakeholders in the region, the airline industry and other experts. The Stephenville Airport is a vital resource to this region and I am looking forward to reviewing the information gathered by the consultant," said Joan Burke, MHA for St. George's - Stephenville East.

"I believe that talking to people and organizations in the Stephenville area is a very important aspect of compiling information on the viability of the airport. I am, therefore, very glad the company will work very closely with representatives from the community and many other community and airport stakeholders in preparing this report," said Port au Port MHA Jim Hodder.
