NOTE TO EDITORS:

Joan Burke, minister responsible for immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, will join the Association for New Canadians today (Monday, December 13) at 12:00 noon in the main lobby of the Confederation Building, East Block, for a Christmas sing-along.

The Association for New Canadians provides settlement services for government-assisted refugees and other immigrants. As part of their English program the staff and students have been practising some Christmas music. The school principal has formed an amateur choir. Participation in the choir helps them learn new vocabulary and seasonal cultural information.

Approximately 50 students participate in the choir. They come from 18 different countries and speak 30 different languages.
