Labour Relations Agency facilitates successful end to contract negotiations

Human Resources, Labour and Employment Minister, Joan Burke is pleased to announce that a new four year collective agreement has been reached between Memorial University Recreation Complex and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3336.

There are approximately 237 workers in this bargaining unit employed at Field House, the Aquarena and with other recreational programs located on the campus of Memorial University.

This agreement was reached with the assistance of Brian Kenny, a conciliator with the Labour Relations Agency. "The agency�s highly trained, professional labour relations staff have delivered both effective and timely conciliation and mediation services, resulting in an agreement that is satisfactory to all parties involved," said Minister Burke.

The Labour Relations Agency has a mandate and responsibility to provide conciliation and mediation assistance to all parties during contract negotiations for both the public and private sectors. Over 80 per sent of the cases that the Labour Relations Agency staff become involved with are resolved.

Minister Burke congratulates the Memorial University Recreation Complex and CUPE Local 3336 on reaching this agreement.
