NLIS 2 June 18, 2004 (Government Services) Winner announced in financial I.Q. essay contest Government Services Minister Dianne Whalen is pleased to announce that Meredith Loveys of Corner Brook is the provincial winner of the 2004 Test Your Financial I.Q. Essay Contest. For her winning entry, the Herdman Collegiate student has received $750. "It�s my pleasure to congratulate Meredith on her winning essay. Despite her young age, Meredith already has big plans for her future and a good grasp of what it will take to make those dreams happen," Minister Whalen said. Minister Whalen said she was impressed with the number of essays the department received, in French and English, from across the province to the contest. In all, 102 entries were received. The Test Your Financial I.Q. Contest is part of a national-wide program by the Canadian Securities Administrators, the umbrella organization of the 13 provincial and territorial securities regulators in Canada. Youth from across Canada were asked to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the world of saving and investing through this second annual essay contest. The goal is to encourage teens aged 14 to 18 years to learn more about investing. In her essay, Meredith detailed her plans for the future which includes attending university, as well as how she intends to finance those goals. She wrote about the importance of setting realistic time lines and sticking with them.
