Minister to emphasize quality during and after Boston Seafood Show

Trevor Taylor, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will be emphasizing the quality of Newfoundland and Labrador seafood at the international Boston Seafood Show to be held March 14-16.

"The Boston Seafood Show is a global showcase for Newfoundland and Labrador seafood," said Minister Taylor. "I have long heard about this event and I am delighted to have the opportunity to promote the quality of our provinces seafood while sizing up our international competition."

Minister Taylor is determined that this years participation build on the success of years past by keeping informed those members of the industry who are unable to attend.

"Most fish harvesters in Newfoundland and Labrador wont get a chance to get down to Boston," said the minister. "The benefits of understanding the global seafood marketplace should not be limited only to those who happen to attend a trade show. One of the ways that we hope to increase awareness of the significance of quality in the international marketplace is to afterwards produce fact sheets that summarize key impressions gained at the Boston Seafood Show."

The international Boston Seafood Show is billed as North Americas premier seafood event. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has had a presence at the show each year since 1982. Promotional activities include a trade show booth, the annual Newfoundland and Labrador seafood industry reception and private meetings with seafood customers. Outcomes for the provinces seafood industry have included increased awareness of the quality and versatility of provincial seafood products (especially coldwater shrimp), increased networking opportunities, the introduction of new seafood products and increased publicity (especially among small and medium-sized companies).

The events exhibitor list reads like a whos who in the international fishery and includes exhibitors from as far away as Alaska, China and Australia. The governments of Canada, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nunavut are also registered exhibitors.
