Commissioner appointed to Public Service Commission

Premier Danny Williams today announced the appointment of Keith Barry as commissioner of the Public Service Commission, effective January 4, 2005.

"Mr. Barry will bring to the position the wealth of valued experience and knowledge he has gained during his 39-year career in the public service, including many years of management experience," said Premier Williams. "We will benefit from his application of public service values and the merit principle to his new position."

Mr. Barry has been director of financial administration with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary since 1993. He has also worked with the Fisheries Loan Board, the Department of Community and Social Development, and Executive Council.

He was recently honoured with a fellowship with the Society of Management Accountants of Canada.

As commissioner, he succeeds Sheila Devine who has been appointed chair of the Public Service Commission.
