Economic Policy Committee of Cabinet to hold meetings in Lewisporte

Ministers with government’s Economic Policy Committee (EPC) of Cabinet will be in Lewisporte next week for meetings.

"This will be an excellent opportunity for cabinet ministers to meet with invited representatives of municipalities, business and other economic development stakeholders in the region and hear first-hand their ideas for economic growth for the province, particularly for rural areas," said Kathy Dunderdale, chair of EPC and Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development.

Minister Dunderdale said this visit to the area complements meetings held by the full cabinet in various areas of the province over the past few months.

"Such working visits to various regions are critical to government’s objective of creating a vision and strategy for revitalization of rural Newfoundland and Labrador," she said.

One of the EPC ministers is Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works and Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs. "As MHA for the District of Lewisporte, I am delighted that my colleagues will join me in Lewisporte to meet with our regional partners and listen to their views on economic and resource issues and opportunities for building on the strengths of our rural communities," Minister Rideout said.

Other members of EPC are Ed Byrne, Minister of Natural Resources; Loyola Sullivan, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board; Trevor Taylor, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Minister Responsible for Labrador; Paul Shelley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation; and Tom Osborne, Minister of Environment and Conservation.

NOTE TO EDITORS: A photo opportunity for news media will be available at 8:50 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, at Lewisporte Town Hall. Interviews with ministers can also be arranged.
