Concerts to be held on Government House grounds

Edward Roberts, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Mrs. Eve Roberts are pleased to invite the public to Government House grounds to enjoy the first of several concerts to be scheduled.

The first concert on the grounds will be held September 18, 2004 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. and will feature the CLB Regimental Band, the City of St. Johns Pipe Band and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band.

"Eve and I are always looking for new ways to open Government House to the public. I am delighted that performances by these three outstanding bands will provide an additional opportunity to make historic Government House and its beautiful grounds more accessible to the public. Eve and I invite residents and tourists to share in these wonderful surroundings and enjoy some of the provinces outstanding musical talent," said Mr. Roberts.

The concerts are free of charge. Audiences are invited to arrive early and enjoy some refreshments. Two concerts per year are planned. Dates for the 2005 concerts will be announced early in the new year.

The Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Roberts also welcome the public to the Annual Garden Party on Government House grounds on Wednesday, July 28, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Media representatives interested in covering the events are asked to contact Government House.

The 22-acre green oasis surrounding Government House is shared by floral beds and a variety of trees, including beech, mountain ash, hawthorne, birch, spruce and maple. Many of the trees were planted by members of the Royal Family and other distinguished guests. The grounds are open to the public daily until dusk.
