Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

1.    5 Wing Goose Bay Military Use of Air Defence Countermeasures Chaff                      (Reg. 1159)
      Proponent: Department of National Defence

The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following condition:

  • The proponent must conduct an Environmental Effects Monitoring Program to monitor the effects of chaff and associated debris on the environment. This program would also look at the amount of chaff and debris generated, bio-degradation of the chaff and debris and opportunities for potential cleanup and recovery/reduction of debris. The plan must be submitted to the Minister of Environment and Conservation for approval by March 1, 2005.

2.    5 Wing Goose Bay Military Use of Air Defence Countermeasures Flares                 (Reg. 1160)
      Proponent: Department of National Defence

The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:

  • The proponent must conduct an Environmental Effects Monitoring Program to monitor the effects of flares and associated debris on the environment. This program would also look at the amount of flare debris generated, bio-degradation of the debris and opportunities for potential cleanup and recovery/reduction of debris. The plan must be submitted to the Minister of Environment and Conservation for approval by March 1, 2005.

  • The proponent and the Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Branch, must meet prior to and at the end of each flight training session, concerning forest fire fighting, and prevention activities.

3.    Little Rapids Snowmobile Trail                             (Reg. 1157)
       Proponent: Humber Valley Resort

4.    Hickey�s Pond, Swift Current ATV trail                             (Reg. 1158)
       Proponent: Mr. Lester Eddy
