Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program, October 8-10

Tom Osborne, Minister of Environment and Conservation, announced today that his department has scheduled a Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) workshop for the east coast of Newfoundland. This program is open to those 18 years of age and older who would like to pursue outdoor activities, but feel they lack the necessary skills or knowledge.

"Becoming an Outdoors Woman is an incredible program developed to help women overcome some of the barriers they face to becoming involved in outdoor activities," said Minister Osborne. "Participants have an opportunity to learn fly-fishing, shotgun, canoeing, hiking, outdoor survival, archery plus many other skills. Most of all, participants learn to make a connection with nature and begin to better understand and appreciate the natural environment that surrounds us all."

This BOW program will be held at Burry Heights, Salmonier Line, October 8-10. All classes are offered in a supportive, non-competitive environment that allows individuals to learn at their own pace. Registration cost is $150 for two nights accommodations, meals, and four three-hour classes. A limited number of scholarships are available for single mothers or students who may require financial assistance.

"I would like to commend all sponsors, organizations, and volunteers for organizing this important program," said the minister. "I wish all participants an enjoyable weekend as they develop their outdoor skills and learn to protect our healthy and natural environment."
