Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Port Saunders Breakwater, Wharf Construction and Dredging                      (Reg. 1155)
Proponent: Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO)

The proponent proposes to construct a new breakwater wharf extending from the existing wharf and dredging work for berthage at the Marine Service Centre site in Port Saunders. Construction will also include a new site access road. The undertaking is expected to be completed over a multi-year period, commencing in the autumn of 2004 with construction of the new access road, and breakwater wharf scheduled for 2005 and 2006. Operation and maintenance of the facility will be under the control of the Port Saunders Harbour Authority with the support of DFO Small Craft Harbours. The undertaking was registered on September 13, 2004; public comments are due by October 19, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due on October 28, 2004.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
