Minister to attend Canadian Councils of Resource Ministers Meeting in Yukon

The Minister of Environment and Conservation, Tom Osborne, will attend the Canadian Councils of Resource Ministers (CCRM) meeting taking place in the Yukon, September 15 -17.

Minister Osborne said he is looking forward to meeting with his counterparts for the first time since becoming the minister responsible for wildlife, as result of restructuring of government departments earlier this year.

"I am excited about meeting with resource ministers from across the country to examine issues that are important to all of us, as well as highlighting issues that are of particular interest and importance to this province," said Minister Osborne. "There are several key items on the agenda that will generate valuable discussions such as, endangered species, critical habitat, recovery, as well as general biodiversity and wildlife management issues."

The minister said the resource ministers meeting is a good opportunity to have productive discussions on issues related to our outdoor resources and natural environment. "The CCRM meeting allows provincial, territorial and federal governments to discuss important wildlife and other resource issues, and identify ways of working together and finding a common approach to the issues," said the minister.

Minister Osborne added that government is committed to protecting and conserving species that are at risk in the province, as well as working diligently on behalf of the people of the province to ensure sustainable and prudent wildlife management programs.
