Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Glenwood Composting Facility                   (Reg. 1153)
Proponent: North Atlantic Lumber Inc.
 

The proponent proposes to develop an open windrow composting facility to compost existing bark and sawdust waste through the regional importation and addition of fish/seafood offal and/or manures to assist in the elimination of the existing bark and sawdust pile. The proposed facility will be located on the North Atlantic Lumber Inc. property approximately two kilometres west of Glenwood. No buildings or additional infrastructure will be required. Trucks transporting offal, manures and compost will use the existing mill road. The facility will expand from 0.5 hectares to two hectares in three phases. Appropriate composting recipes of wood waste and offal/manure will be developed and refined during the pilot phase. Existing staff and equipment will be used for the pilot phase but additional staff may be required during phases two and three. The pilot phase is anticipated to begin in the autumn of 2004. The undertaking was registered on September 8, 2004; public comments are due by October 15, 2004; and the minister's decision is due on October 23, 2004.

(2) Grand Bank to L�Anse-au-Loup Public Trail        (Reg. 1154)  
Proponent: L�Anse-au-Loup Trail Association Inc.

The proponent plans to construct a remote trail system between the town of Grand Bank and L'Anse-au-Loup. Construction will consist of approximately 8.9 kilometres of new trail and consolidation of approximately 6.7 kilometres of existing trail. The undertaking was registered on September 10, 2004; public comments are due by October 15, 2004; and the minister's decision is due on October 25, 2004.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown

UNDERTAKING WITHDRAWN:

Pasadena / Deer Lake Resort (Golf Course, Residences, Hotel)                (Reg. 1114)
Proponent: Timberland Golf Development Corporation

The proponent has withdrawn the above undertaking from further environmental assessment review.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Abitibi-Consolidated District 12 Warfords Additional Harvest                       (Reg. 1143)
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Company of Canada
