ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT BULLETIN

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Arnold�s Cove Marina                                                      (Reg. 1133)
Proponent: Arnold�s Cove Recreational Boaters Association

The proponent plans to construct a recreational boat marina for use by local and visiting mariners. This will involve the construction of a breakwater and the dredging of the saltwater pond at Arnold�s Cove. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in August 2004. The project was registered on May 26, 2004; public comments are due by July 6, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due by July 10, 2004.

(2) Kilbride Beef Cattle Abattoir                                             (Reg. 1134)
Proponent: Windy Meadow Farm & Market (Harry Tobin)

The proponent plans to build a 576 square foot abattoir to process 100 to 150 beef cattle a year adjacent to his present farm house on Lundrigans Road, in Kilbride. The proponent also plans to retail the products at the site including operating a deli service. Construction is planned to start in July of 2004 and will take approximately three weeks to complete. The project was registered on June 1, 2004; public comments are due by July 5, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due by July 15, 2004.

(3) Port Harmon Channel and Harbour Dredging                   (Reg. 1135)
Proponent: Port Harmon Authority Limited

The proponent proposes to dredge a portion of Port Harmon, located in the Town of Stephenville, to depth of 11m to ensure the chartered depth is maintained for a period of five to 10 years without the requirement for additional maintenance dredging. The specific areas to be dredged include the turning basin adjacent to the dock and the entire length of the approach channel. Dredging is scheduled to begin in July 2004 with a completion date of December 2004. The project was registered on June 1, 2004; public comments are due by July 5, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due by July 15, 2004.

The Minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

(1) Heart�s Delight-Islington Marina and Breakwater Development (Reg. 1127)
Proponent: Heart�s Delight-Islington Enhancement Committee

(2) Deer Lake-Humber River Estates Resort (Reg. 1121)
Proponent: RTGO Developers Inc.

The minister has released the Deer Lake River Estates Resort from further environmental assessment acknowledging that the proponent has withdrawn the marina, boat launch and watercraft rental facility from the original project description.
