Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Marystown Area Sludge Treatment Facility (Reg. 1128)
Proponent: Multi-Environmental Services Limited

The proponent proposes to construct a sludge treatment facility on Route 220 between Burin and Marystown on the outskirts of the municipal boundary of Marystown. Tanker trucks would deliver bio-solids collected from septic tanks in the area to the proposed treatment facility. The facility would consist of three sludge holding beds, a Kickuth BioReactor Wetland Treatment bed, a parking and turning area and a storage shed on a site approximately 150 metres by 150 metres. It is proposed that treated effluent will be discharged into the ground through a subsurface discharge. Access to the proposed site would be via an existing road which would be upgraded. The proponent expects that construction will take approximately three months following release from the environmental assessment process.

The undertaking was registered on May 7. Public comments are due by June 11, and the minister's decision is due on June 21.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
