Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1)Castor River Snowmobile Trail                                                                                   (Reg. 1126)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation

The proponent proposes to construct a seven km snowmobile trail from an existing trail, to by-pass Castor River Pond, near Castor River on the Northern Peninsula. The trail includes a major 120 ft crossing over Castor River. Start of construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early spring or summer 2004. The undertaking was registered on April 7 , 2004; Public comments are due by May 17 , 2004; and, the minister's decision is due on May 22 , 2004.

(2)Heart’s Delight-Islington Marina and Breakwater Development                                      (Reg 1127)
Proponent: Heart’s Delight-Islington Enhancement Committee

The proponent proposes to construct a marina, boat basin, new marginal wharves, parking areas and a breakwater extension on the southwest side of the harbor in the community of Heart’s Delight-Islington. This is Phase II of a three-phase initiative to develop marine infrastructure. The project is proposed to start in May 2004 and will take eight months to complete. The project is proposed to be funded from ACOA, HRDC and in-kind contribution from the Enhancement Committee. The undertaking was registered on April 12, 2004; public comments are due by May 17, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due on May 27 , 2004.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
