Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Deer Lake Integrated Sawmill                                                                                        (Reg. 1122)
Proponent: Eastwood Forest Products Inc.

The proponent plans to construct and operate an integrated sawmill on a 5.7 hectare site across from the Deer Lake Regional Airport on the south side of the Trans Canada Highway on quarry lands. The proponent proposes to relocate the integrated sawmill in Cormack to Deer Lake and expansion of operations including addition of a dry kiln with a maximum capacity of 20,000,000 board feet of kiln-dried lumber per year. Construction is planned to start in May and be completed by August. The project was registered on March 4; public comments are due by April 14; and the minister's decision is due on April 18.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
