Funding provided for student leadership conference

From September 27 - October 4, Prince of Wales Collegiate (PWC) in St. Johns, will host the national Canadian Student Leadership Conference. Anna Thistle, Minister of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education, was at PWC today to present conference organizers with $40,000 on behalf of her department and the Department of Education and the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development. The money will be used to help offset the costs associated with this event.

"We are delighted this conference is being held in Newfoundland and Labrador, as it gives students from more than 40 schools throughout the province, an opportunity to learn from the finest instructors involved in leadership training," said Minister Thistle. "This will be an experience of a lifetime, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to an event, which brings together the best and brightest students from across Canada."

More than 600 students and teachers will attend the Canadian Student Leadership Conference, which features a full schedule of activities focusing on community service, volunteerism, team work, determination and education.
