Minister announces winners of CareerSearch 2002 Tuition Voucher Contest

Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education Minister Anna Thistle is pleased to announce the winners of the CareerSearch 2002 Tuition Voucher Contest.

"This contest was a wonderful opportunity for all graduating high school students throughout the province to make use of the wealth of career information included in our CareerSearch 2002 study," said Minister Thistle. "The document is an invaluable tool to support students in making one of the most important decisions of their lives."

Eligibility for the contest required that a student answer a question related to a post-secondary program which they were interested in, using information from CareerSearch 2002. Only one entry per student was accepted.

Winners were selected from a random draw of individuals in the various school districts and each will receive a $500 tuition voucher, redeemable at any post-secondary institution in Newfoundland and Labrador, until March 31, 2004.

"The idea for this contest was developed to encourage students across the province to seek out the valuable information in CareerSearch - either in the book or online," explained Minister Thistle. "Anyone who goes to the CareerSearch website is able to look up the program they wish to study, what they can expect to earn and how satisfied previous graduates were with their course."

The winners include:

District 1 - Sara McCarthy, Happy Valley-Goose Bay (Goose High)
District 2 - Jenny Gardiner, Roddickton (Cloud River Academy)
District 3 - Kayla Perry, Corner Brook (Herdman Collegiate)
District 4 - Jaclyn Aucoin, Stephenville (Stephenville High)
District 5 - Leslie Earle, Springdale (Indian River High)

District 8 - Nathan Martin, Little Hearts Ease (Southwest Arm Academy)
District 9 - Ashley Doyle, Avondale (Roncalli Central High)
