Minister announces appointments to Memorial University Board of Regents

Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education Minister Anna Thistle has announced two appointments to the Memorial University of Newfoundland Board of Regents. David Porter has been appointed for a six-month period, while Leslie E. Galway has been appointed for a three-year period. Both terms are effective April 1, 2003.

"I am pleased to appoint these two individuals to the Board of Regents," said Minister Thistle. "They will make an invaluable contribution to advancing post-secondary education in this province, and I look forward to their input and guidance."

David Porter is a resident of Labrador City. He is currently vice-president of Human Resources with the Iron Ore Company of Canada. Mr. Porter has worked in the mining and steel industries for a number of years, for such companies as Inco, Rio Algoma Limited, Lornex Mining Corporation and Atlas Steels.

Leslie E. Galway is the president and C.E.O. of Newfoundland Ocean Industries Association (NOIA), with responsibility for managing the growing business of NOIA and providing a continuity of leadership and representation for membership.

The Memorial University Board of Regents is responsible for the management, administration and the affairs of the university.
