New appointments to college board of governors

Sandra C. Kelly, Minister of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education, today announced two new appointments to the College of the North Atlantic Board of Governors. Jamie MacDonald had been appointed as student representative and Sylvia Alexander as faculty representative to the board for a two-year period. The appointments are effective January 6, 2003.

"I am pleased to appoint these two individuals to the college board of governors," said Ms. Kelly. "I am confident that Mr. MacDonald and Ms. Alexander will effectively represent the concerns of students and faculty at the College of the North Atlantic. Their experience and insight will serve to further enhance the current board of governors."

Jamie MacDonald, a resident of Corner Brook, is a third-year civil engineering student at College of the North Atlantic�s Corner Brook campus. Mr. MacDonald also serves as the current president of the student council at the Corner Brook campus.

Sylvia Alexander, a resident of Stephenville, is the current instructional coordinator of the business department and a marketing instructor at College of the North Atlantic�s Bay St. George campus. Ms. Alexander has 27 years of teaching experience with the business department and is marketing chairperson for the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Community Business Development Corporations and the Stephenville International Airport Board.

The College of the North Atlantic�s Board of Governors comprises representation from the education community, business community, general public, student population and college faculty and staff. Individuals are selected based on their background, expertise and interest in community involvement.

College of the North Atlantic is the only public college in Newfoundland and Labrador. The college has 17 campus locations throughout the province. The college is committed to ensuring the delivery of quality programs to meet the existing and emerging needs of today�s labour market.
