New access ramp for Grand Falls-Windsor

Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, along with Anna Thistle, MHA for Grand Falls-Buchans and Minister of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education, today announced government�s plan to construct a new west-bound access ramp in Grand Falls-Windsor, from Duggan Street onto the Trans-Canada Highway.

"I am pleased government is planning to construct this access ramp, as it will provide truckers in the Duggan Industrial Park and vicinity with an easier, direct link to the Trans-Canada Highway," said Minister Walsh. "Given the planned expansion of the industrial park, the new ramp is important, as it will do a great deal to help reduce traffic congestion for other motorists at the Cromer Avenue interchange. Government looked at a number of alternatives for the area, but after due consideration, it has been decided that this is the most efficient way to proceed."

"I am glad this matter has been resolved," said Minister Thistle. "Grand Falls-Windsor has seen significant business expansion in recent years, and this new access ramp will greatly assist in helping with traffic flow, as well as enhance the town�s existing infrastructure."

The design of the ramp is underway and construction will commence during the 2004-2005 fiscal year. The anticipated total cost of this project is $150,000.
