Last section of Outer Ring Road completed

Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Walter Noel, MHA - Virginia Waters, announced today that the final phase of the Outer Ring Road, from Logy Bay Road to East White Hills Road, is now open to motorists.

The 20-kilometre Outer Ring Road is a $66 million project that was funded under the Roads for Rails Agreement. Construction of this major project began in 1991 and has now come to an end with the completion of this final phase. The two-lane arterial from Logy Bay Road to East White Hills Road is two kilometres in length.

"The section we are opening today is the final chapter in the construction of the Outer Ring Road, allowing motorists to realize the full benefits of this major thoroughfare," said Minister Walsh. "The completion of the Outer Ring Road is part of governments ongoing commitment to provide the province of Newfoundland and Labrador with quality highway infrastructure."

"I am happy the Outer Ring Road is complete as it will facilitate travel for the people of my district," said Minister Noel. "In addition, motorists and businesses traveling to and from the east end of St. Johns can enjoy a significant reduction in travel time."
