NLIS 7 August 14, 2003 (Works, Services and Transportation) Contract awarded for Grand Bank health care facility Jim Walsh, Minister of Works Services and Transportation, Gerald Smith, Minister of Health and Community Services, and Judy Foote, MHA for Grand Bank, announced today that a contract valued at $849,537.20 has been awarded to Land & Sea Welding Limited of Carbonear for the supply and erection of the structural frame for the new health care facility in Grand Bank. "Work will soon be underway and the contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of October, 2003," said Minister Walsh. "This contract, which is part of the third phase of construction, brings us one step closer to seeing a new ambulatory care clinic and replacement long term nursing home facility built on the site that has been prepared in Grand Bank." "Health care remains a top priority for government, and part of that commitment involves ensuring that the people of our province have access to quality health and community services," said Minister Smith. "We continue to make investments in health infrastructure in the province, and I am pleased that work is continuing on this health facility in Grand Bank. Once completed, this facility will greatly improve services to the people in the area." "The contract announced today is part of government�s $17.5 million commitment to this project. I look forward to the completion of the health care facility, which will serve our seniors and replace the existing health care clinic," said Minister Foote. "This project is another example of government�s commitment to providing quality health care to the residents of our province." Opening of the new health centre complex is slated for Spring 2005.
