Road upgrades for Gander district

Funding from the provincial capital roads program has been allocated to the District of Gander.

Today, Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, along with Sandra Kelly, MHA for the District of Gander, announced governments plans for upgrades to road infrastructure in the region.

"This year, thanks to the increase of funds in the provincial capital roads program, this department has been able to make significant improvements to local roads throughout Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Walsh. "Im pleased to announce we will be able to complete several projects in Gander District this year. These upgrades will most certainly enhance road conditions for residents and visitors."

Proposed projects for the Gander district consist of:

  • upgrading and paving a section of the road in Benton;
  • upgrading and paving a section of Route 330 (Gander Bay Road), from the end of Cooper Blvd. heading north;
  • making deck repairs to the Glenwood East Overpass; and,
  • installing a pedestrian underpass near the new Queen Elizabeth bridge in Glenwood.

"I am delighted that this much needed road work is being done in my district, particularly in the community of Benton," said Ms. Kelly.

Tenders for the projects are expected to be called in the next couple of weeks.
