Road work scheduled for Grand Falls-Buchans

Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education Minister Anna Thistle, MHA for Grand Falls-Buchans, today announced road upgrades for the district in 2003-04.

"Grand Falls-Buchans will receive some notable improvements in road infrastructure this year, both on and off the Trans Canada Highway," said Minister Walsh. "The upgrades, which are funded through the $23 million provincial capital roads program, will allow for safer and more efficient highway travel through the district."

Planned activities for Grand Falls-Buchans in 2003-04 include:

  • Rehabilitation of Union Street Overpass, Trans Canada Highway at Grand Falls-Windsor;
  • Replace expansion joints at Aspen Brook Bridge and repair deck at Badger Brook Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway;
  • Upgrade and pave section of Route 370, Buchans Highway;
  • Repair wheel rutting on the Trans Canada Highway between Bishop�s Falls and Grand Falls-Windsor.

"This work continues to improve the safety of the traveling public and is vitally important to enhancing the economic development of the area in terms of job creation, tourism and mining development," said Minister Thistle.

Tenders for the projects will be called in the next month.
