$2.4 million paving contract awarded

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Jim Walsh and St. Johns North MHA Lloyd Matthews today announced that a contract valued at $2,422,018 was awarded to Municipal Construction Limited of Mount Pearl.

Minister Walsh said the contract includes paving the Bifurcation Road in St. Johns, from the Outer Ring Road to Kenmount Road. It also includes paving the interchange at the intersection of the Bifurcation Road and Outer Ring Road, as well as paving the interchange at Goldstone Street.

"When completed, the Bifurcation Road will provide motorists with an access to and from Kenmount Road via the Outer Ring Road," said Minister Walsh. "The Outer Ring Road project has proven to be extremely successful in enhancing traffic flow in and around the city. When completed, the Bifurcation Road will be an important part of that road network."

"Traffic in and around the city has been moving much more efficiently since this government began construction of the Outer Ring Road system," said Mr. Matthews. "I am extremely pleased residents of the district of St. Johns North are able to benefit from this project."

Minister Walsh said work has commenced and will be completed by October 2003.
