Road projects announced for Burin-Placentia West

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Jim Walsh and Burin-Placentia West MHA Mary Hodder today announced road projects for the district to be completed in 2003-2004.

"This department strives to continuously improve road infrastructure in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Walsh. "These improvements will be funded from our $23 million provincial capital roads program and will yield significant infrastructure improvements in Burin-Placentia West."

Tenders will be called over the next couple of months for:

  • Realignment of the Bailey Bridge at Red Harbour;
  • Repairing the expansion joint and deck at Red Harbour River East Bridge, Route 210;
  • Replacing Rattle Brook Bridge, located between Boat Harbour and Petite Forte, Route 215;
  • Resurfacing a section of Route 221 from Little Salmonier Bridge towards Black Duck Cove.

"Motorists in the area will see some definite improvements in the roads and bridges when the upgrades are complete," said Ms. Hodder. "The areas undergoing enhancements are somewhat spread throughout the district, making them all the more beneficial for the district as a whole. I am also extremely pleased the department is planning to upgrade and pave a section of Route 222-10, the Winterland Airstrip Road, as it is used on a regular basis to provide access to air ambulance service for residents of Burin-Placentia West."
