Cape St. Francis to benefit from provincial roads program

Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, announced road upgrades for the district of Cape St. Francis today.

"Road users in this district will see considerable improvements resulting from this year�s provincial roads program," said Minister Walsh. "A number of important safety-related and upgrading projects are slated to take place in Cape St. Francis in 2003-04."

The projects the department has planned for the area include:

  • Replacing of culverts with pipe arch on Route 20, Torbay Road;

  • Upgrading and resurfacing sections of Bauline Road between Juniper Stump and Portugal Cove Road;

  • Correcting sight distance problem at Pulpit Rock, Torbay Road;

  • Upgrading and resurfacing sections of Wind Gap Road, Flatrock;

  • Adding additional lane to Route 20, Torbay Road, Torbay Town Hall to Quarry Road (carry over from 2002-03).

Tenders for the projects are expected to be called within the next two months.

Funding from these and other projects carried out throughout the province will be funded from the $23 million provincial capital roads program.
