Ministers announce changes in Labrador airstrips

Jim Walsh, Minister of Works Services and Transportation, along with Wally Andersen, Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs and MHA for Torngat Mountains, today announced Natuashish airstrip has been certified and is accepting aircraft.

"When the airstrip was certified by Transport Canada late last week, we notified the areas commercial airlines, Air Labrador and Provincial Airlines, who have adjusted their coastal service schedules accordingly," said Minister Walsh. "This airstrip will not only accommodate commercial aircraft but vital services such as air ambulance, as well."

"The airstrip is a necessary service for the people of Natuashish and is a significant step in building the community," said Minister Andersen. "We are pleased with our progress in the community so far. This is an exciting time for the people of Natuashish, and we are looking forward to the further development of the community."

Minister Walsh said that, as a result of the certification of Natuashish, Davis Inlet airstrip has been closed.
