Efforts underway to clear roads in St. Anthony

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Jim Walsh says the department is working to clear roads to ensure that the children who remained at schools in the area overnight make it home this evening.

Some children were escorted home this morning, but because of deteriorating conditions, the remainder had to remain in the schools and are only now being escorted to their homes. Conditions in the area have been such that the department has had to use loaders to escort school buses.

Weather conditions have only recently improved and the department is currently attempting to clear roads from St. Anthony to the airport and from the airport to Main Brook. It is expected snow clearing crews will operate throughout the night, if conditions permit, to clean up after the storm.

Additional information on road conditions can be obtained from the departments web site at www.roads.gov.nf.ca.
