NLIS 3 February 18, 2003 (Works, Services and Transportation) Leader of the Opposition's comments about cabinet appointees are blatant lies Jim Walsh, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation and one of five new members of Cabinet, said comments made by the Leader of the Opposition stating that the Premier chose his new Cabinet members because they threatened to resign are outright lies. "How dare the Leader of the Opposition accuse me and my colleagues, Ministers Jones, Andersen, Sweeney and Mercer of blackmailing the Premier in order to get into cabinet. This is a grave misrepresentation of information, and I am being polite when I say this," said Minister Walsh. Minister Walsh continued, "We were chosen for cabinet on the basis of ability, leadership and experience. The Leader of the Opposition may try to wield power in his caucus with threats and strong arm tactics. This government caucus does not operate in that manner. The Leader of the Opposition now has a choice - he can recant his remarks and admit they are lies or he can prove what he said." Media contact:
