The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet is set for October 18 in St. Johns. The Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding achievements of provincial athletes and builders. The Newfoundland and Labrador Hall of Fame is a program of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador.

The people to be inducted are; in the athlete category, curler, Sue-Ann Bartlett, rower, John Barrington and volleyball player Kathy Noseworthy; builders, the Howell Family of Carbonear, athlete / builder Adrain Miller and the first ever inductee from the Veteran category, soccer player, Norm Kelly.

This celebration of athletic achievement within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador has spanned 30 years and included over 140 inductees. It is the commitment of these individuals and their love of sport which have prompted their recognition.

This year will mark the first time that a nominee will be inducted upon the newly created section known as veterans. As time has passed over the years, focus has moved on from the conventional builder into the more world renowned athlete. This category will serve to recognize accomplishments which are equally important to sport development.

The banquet will take place on Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion in Pleasantville. Tickets are on sale at a price of $20 and can be purchased by phoning (709) 576-4932.
