Extension to the 2002-03 fox and coyote season - Northern Peninsula area

Julie Bettney, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, announced today the trapping season for fox and coyote on the Northern Peninsula (zone description below) will be extended beyond the scheduled closing date of February 1, 2003, to a revised closing date of March 31, 2003. This two-month season extension is being provided to aid in the collection of specimens for rabies testing purposes, while at the same time providing additional trapping opportunities. Submission of fox and coyote carcasses during this period is mandatory and can be dropped off at the nearest District Wildlife/Forestry office. All carcasses must be tagged identifying the trappers name, date trapped and location where the animal was caught. The skins of these animals may be maintained by the trapper.

Any lynx or other furbearer accidentally taken during this period, for which no open season applies, must be submitted, with the skin on, to the nearest district office.

Trappers are advised to take all the necessary precautions when handling these animals.
