Province responding to emergency in Badger

Yesterday, Oliver Langdon, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, and minister responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Emergency Measures Organization (EMO), and Anna Thistle, MHA for the District of Grand Falls - Buchans and Minister of Labour, joined Mayor Gerald Hurley and the citizens of Badger as they reacted to the disastrous flood conditions.

"The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has committed its support to the town and people of Badger during this difficult time," said the minister. "Representatives with EMO and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are on the scene and will work with the mayor, and residents of Badger, in the response phase of the disaster, and will continue to provide assistance once the water has receded and the town begins to pick up the pieces."

"The people of Badger have experienced hardships in the past, but the strength of this community has persevered," said Minister Thistle. "I would like to commend all of those who have been working very hard in responding to this emergency."

The Newfoundland and Labrador Emergency Measures Organization is in the process of preparing information kits for those who have experienced property damage. These kits will be available later today at the Pentecostal Church in Badger.

Assessment teams will be formed immediately to assess the level of damage to municipal infrastructure and residential property.
